I found Camerata Music in
1999 when I was looking for music lessons for my children. I was
impressed with everything Camerata offered. From rhythm and
movement for toddlers to preparing students for their ARCT, Camerata
would be able to provide an in-depth musical education for my children.
In 2001 I was approached to
join Camerata Music as another teacher was needed to meet the demand
for the Music For Young Children program. This was an opportunity
to combine my musical and teaching experiences. I taught in a
private school (Apostolic Christian Academy) for 5 years, where I
taught all subjects, including music, and had the opportunity to work
with all ages. I have taught at children’s camps, and put
together children’s programs in both academic and church settings.
I was the music director at a local church in Ottawa (Stittsville
United Pentecostal Church). This was an amazing experience!
I worked with both musicians and singers. I had the opportunity
to help develop musicians, and put together musical and vocal
arrangements. Over the last 7 years, our worship team has been
invited to provide music at various religious events in Ontario, and
some of our musicians and singers are now involved in the UPC Ontario
Youth Band. After being the music director for 23 years, I
retired from this position in 2015, but still continue to head Small
Hearts, Big Praise, a children’s worship team.
This September 2020 will start my 20th year teaching the Music For
Young Children program. Over the past 10 years, I have also had
the opportunity to teach in many daycares throughout the City of
Ottawa. Currently I am also teaching at Early Beginnings
Multicultural Daycare (10 years) and at both locations for the St.
Laurent Academy Daycares (5 years). Recently, I have also taught
some music workshops for the CCPRN (Canadian Care Providers Resource
Network).
I love introducing children to music! It is so exciting to see
the children grow and develop in their ability and love of music.
As my students move on to study with other teachers in the studio, I am
so glad that I had the opportunity to start them on their musical
journey.
